"Good intentions are not enough, but are accompanied by actions." At the age of 12, Severn Suzuki, a Canadian girl, founder of the ECO (Environmental Childrens Organization), traveled with her colleagues from Vancouver to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to make a speech that surprised the participants of the Environment Conference and Development, held there by the UN.
That happened 17 years ago, but the echo of his words still sounds in many intentions, although not many actions. Few changes have been noticed.
Today, at 28 years old, Suzuki continues his fight for the defense of animals, for some change that can guarantee the future of the planet. At the conference, she spoke about the hole in the ozone layer, the effects of chemicals in the air and rivers, the desertification of forests, etc.
I think it is never too late to begin to be aware and committed to the needs and future of our children. It will never be too late to educate them in values as important as solidarity, respect for the common good, love of nature and the environment.
I think Suzuki's speech is appropriate for any age and for everyone, regardless. Something to reflect on the future we are building for our children:
